Volleyball Team Prepares to Host NCAA East Region Championship

After compiling a 27-1 record and capturing the Northeast-10 Conference tournament championship, the women’s volleyball team is the No. 1 seed and host of the east region for the NCAA tournament. UNH begins its quest for a national championship with a match at 5 p.m. on Thursday against Dominican.

It is the team’s seventh consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament.

The team is led by Keidy Candelaria ’13, the two-time NE-10 Player of the Year, and Head Coach Robin Salters ’91, who was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II East Region Coach of the Year.

The squad is currently riding a 24-game winning streak.

The volleyball teams begins its quest for a national title with a match at home on Thursday at 5 p.m.

In a feature story last year, Salters, who has won more than 500 matches during her career at UNH and led the Chargers to the NCAA tournament in 17 of her 19 years at the helm, reflected on what she enjoys most about being a coach.

“To watch how they have matured as players and women and become leaders for the younger players,” Salters said, “…that is why I coach.
