Panel: Influential Women in Sports

Female sports legends Donna Lopiano, Rosa Gatti, Patricia Meiser and Michelle Williams will discuss women’s athletics as part of an event on campus on Tuesday, March 4. The event will begin at 5 p.m. in the Alumni Lounge in Bartels Hall.

The discussion, “Similar Journeys and the Same Obstacles,” will focus on how women have influenced the sporting industry and the impact changes in the field have had on their careers. The discussion will be moderated by Elizabeth Davis, dean of the College of Business.  

Panelists include:

Michelle Wilson is chief revenue and marketing officer for WWE. Since joining the organization in 2009, she has transformed the company’s approach to annual events. Wilson also has been the chief marketing officer for the United States Tennis Association, where she helped make the U.S. Open the world’s most attended sporting event.

Patricia Meiser, one of just 30 women in the nation to serve as directors of athletics, has been with the University of Hartford for 21 years. Meiser was the head women’s basketball coach at Penn State and also worked at the University of Connecticut.

Rosa Gatti retired last year as the senior vice president of communication counsel and corporate outreach at ESPN. She has helped grow the brand and promote diversity since the organization’s first year of operation. Before joining ESPN, she was the first female sports information director at Villanova University and later went on to seve in the same position at Brown University. She is a member of UNH’s Board of Governors.

Donna Lopiano, former CEO of the Women’s Sport Foundation and president of the Sports Management Resources, has been an advocate for gender equality in sports and has repeatedly been named by Fox Sports as one of “The 100 Most Influential People in Sports. “She has participated as an athlete in 26 national championships in four sports and was a nine-time All-American. She is an executive-in-residence in the sports management department at UNH.
