Lecture: “Game-Changing Innovation”

Chris Van Buiten, director of innovations at Sikorsky Aircraft, will present a lecture on Wednesday, April 23, that will explore the principles of “game-changing innovation.” The presentation, which will begin at 12:15 p.m. in the Schumann Auditorium in Buckman Hall, is part of the Alvine Engineering Professional Effectiveness and Enrichment Program.

Van Buiten will discuss different case studies on how a culture of innovation can be created within a large enterprise that can yield game-changing technology, product and process improvement. He will discuss some of the newly launched developments at Sikorsky, which is one of Connecticut’s largest employers.

Van Buiten joined Sikorsky in 1989. He has been active in the conceptual and preliminary design of Sikorsky products, including the commercial transport helicopter, heavy-lift helicopter and the Black Hawk helicopter. He has served as chief of preliminary design and manager of advanced design He has a bachelor’s degree in aerospace from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree in system design and management from M.I.T.
