Artist Dora Atwater Millikin to Lecture at Lyme Academy College

Dora Atwater Millikin, artist, member and teacher at the Providence Art Club and the Copley Society, will present a lecture at Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts on Thursday, March 24, from 6-8 p.m. The event is part of Lyme’s 2016 lecture series, and it will take place in the lecture hall at the Old Lyme campus. The reception is at 6 p.m., followed by the lecture at 7 p.m.

Lyme is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Milliken, an alumna of Lyme, is one of many prominent alumni, faculty and other nationally recognized artists who will be featured in a series of lectures, classes, exhibitions and residencies planned for the anniversary year.

Millikin’s subject matter focuses on coastal New England scenery, with an emphasis on the gritty, industrial aspects of the fishing industry and the increasingly more urban nature of local towns. She is an honorary member of the board of directors for the South Coast Artists Inc., a volunteer, nonprofit corporation that promotes artists in the south coast region of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Millikin opens her studio each summer as a participant in the South Coast’s Art Drive Tour, in which artists open their studios to the public.

Tickets are $15 for the lecture and reception. To RSVP, contact Kristen Brady at 860-434-3571 ext. 121 or by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
