First Upstander Walk Aims to Foster Diversity, Inclusion on Campus

Last week, the Campus Climate Coalition sponsored an Upstander Walk to reaffirm the campus community's commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion on campus. Students, staff, and faculty participated and were encouraged to place their handprints on the “We Choose to Be Upstanders” banner that will hang in a public space on campus.

“As a community, it is of paramount importance that we create a climate that is respectful and inclusive and one in which people from all different backgrounds feel valued, respected and accepted,” said President Steve Kaplan. “Events like this play a critical role in addressing what can sometimes be an uncomfortable topic by creating an open dialogue and providing a welcoming forum in which everyone is empowered to express their thoughts and feelings.”
